Earlier, Dr. Tanvi Patel worked as a Diabetologist at G Kuppuswamy Naidu Memorial Hospital in Coimbatore for 15 months in the Department of Diabetology and Endocrinology, and at Coimbatore Diabetes Foundation as Assistant Diabetologist for a year. She also served as Ophthalmologist at Lotus Eye Care Hospital, Coimbatore, from May 2011 to February 2012.
Dr. Tanvi Patel is keenly interested in hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) prevention and management, insulin therapy and diabetic retinopathy. She is well-versed in the screening, diagnosis and management of diabetes and associated co-morbid conditions, having managed an exclusive diabetic OPD of 40-50 patients on a daily basis. She has managed referrals for the glycemic control in various challenging conditions such as steroid-induced hyperglycemia, nephropathy and patients awaiting surgery. She has experience in insulin therapy for Type 1 diabetes in children, gestational diabetes and handling acute diabetic complications like hypoglycemia, diabetic ketoacidosis and hyperosmolar hyperglycemic non-ketotic coma. Dr. Patel focuses on life style modification, exercise and proper nutrition in her treatment regime. To reduce complications of diabetes, there is an emphasis on foot care and prevention of amputation, as well as retina screening for diabetic retinopathy with further treatment options to prevent acquired blindness. She has a thrice-weekly Thyroid Clinic, which also includes inputs for management of PCOS.
Dr. Tanvi Patel has been involved in education and empowerment of patients for managing their diabetes, including self-monitoring of blood glucose (SMBG), home management of hypoglycemia and insulin administering techniques. She also educates nurses and paramedical staff regarding diabetes, treatment options, hypoglycemia and other related complications.
Dr. Tanvi Patel has delivered lectures as a guest speaker at the Indian Medical Association chapter in Juhu (Mumbai), and various other local medical bodies and corporates. She has attended numerous national and international conferences, seminars and other events, such as the Mayo Clinic International Diabetes Summit, Insulin Summit, Incretin Summit, Indo-UK Diabetes Summit, RSSDI events, etc.
Dr. Tanvi Patel has been regularly involved in social service. She conducted a mega diabetes management camp in October 2016 at Visavadar village in Gujarat's Junagadh district. About 350 villagers benefited from the camp, with medicines distributed to those in need. A Diabetes Awareness Camp was conducted by her in Bandra, Mumbai, in June 2015. Dr. Tanvi Patel has conducted and managed many other camps and talks for awareness, early diagnosis and management of diabetes and other lifestyle diseases, for corporates as well as for the rural and urban general public.
